CDC’s Office on Smoking and Health (OSH) recently launched their 2024 Tips from Former Smokers® (Tips®) campaign. This campaign features real people sharing their stories of how cigarette smoking and secondhand smoke exposure have negatively impacted their health as well as the toll these smoking-related conditions have taken on their family members. This includes real people such as Amy, Ethan and Angie who bravely tell their story of suffering devastating health complications at a young age due to highly addictive commercial tobacco products such as menthol cigarettes. The ads will run through September 22nd on national broadcast and cable TV, and on digital and social media channels.

The CDC Tips® page hosts free campaign materials and resources for partners, public health professionals, tobacco control advocates and coalitions who are working to prevent commercial tobacco use in their communities. Resources include 1) real stories from real people, 2) social media content, 3) videos, 4) print ads, 5) the impact of marketing and menthol cigarettes, 6) motivational cards and images and 7) photos to use on your website and/or newsletter. The page also includes links to additional resources such as cessation services and ways to get involved in your state or community’s commercial tobacco prevention efforts.
